The Year-Round Audience (Yes, even in Summer)
Turns out… students don’t just vanish over summer ☀️
49% of our audience living at university accommodation are on full 51-52 week tenancies, and almost half of all students said they were likely to extend their stay.
Here are more interesting stats:
- 46% of UK students say they’d prefer to remain in their uni city over the summer (NGM Youth Panel 2025)
- Among international students, 64% are likely or very likely to remain for the full year. (HEPI Student Survey, 2023)
- 35% of all students say they’ve actively looked for summer jobs in their uni city. (Save the Student, 2024)
So, why do many stay?
Because once they’ve had a taste of freedom, they’re not giving it up that easily.
Summer isn’t a switch-off, it’s a continuation. From jobs to friendships to a sense of independence, uni life doesn’t stop when lectures end – especially for international students, who are far more likely to stay put.
That means we continue to have access to high occupancy buildings, and an engaged youth audience. Even over summer, our network is active in spaces young people use every day.
Curious what student life actually looks like over summer?
Here’s a Vox Pop capturing a day in the life with Cara – a student living on-site at UWE over the summer.
